I chose the article titled "'Star Wars' STEM Class Captures Kids' Imagination." NUI STEM Outreach Program offers several programs each year, like the Star Wars class this article is based about. This class allows students, some as young as second graders, to build their skills in science and technology by building their own light sabers. Many jobs are emerging in the STEM field, so classes like these are very beneficial to young students.
The students are very eager to build their skills, especially doing a Star Wars activity. NUI Stem Outreach Program focuses on preparing kids to deal with the future which involves more technology than there is today. The students in this program have successfully build their own light sabers, holograms, and robots. Since there are many jobs evolving in the STEM field, the young children of today need to better their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-- the acronyms of STEM. This Star Wars program will be very beneficial to the future of our world by targeting the students.

Cloud discusses about the debate issue: whether becoming a genius is a nature or nurture issue. Simonton claims it is a mixture of both. He also defines what a "genius" is: those who" have the intelligence, enthusiasm, and endurance to acquire the needed expertise in a broadly valued domain of achievement" and who then make contributions to that field that are considered by peers to be both "original and highly exemplary." Simonton also states deliberate practice is necessary in becoming a genius. Geniuses tend to have certain personality traits, which are both gained from nature and nurture. Cloud determines kids need to be able to express their skills. If children have high IQ scores, they should be able to skip grades rather than being held back due to their ages. After reading this article, I know I need to continue to practice the skills that would benefit my career. As for my Genius Hour Project, I will express my knowledge of my topic and continue to practice skills like talking to authorities and reaching out for help. After all, practice makes perfect.
I agree with Mr. Robinson's views about humans are naturally different and diverse. There is a problem with satisfying the needs of arts, humanities, and physical education. Students prosper under environments in which celebrates their individual talents. It reaches parts of the students which otherwise would be untouched. This relates to the concept of genius hour because genius hour allows the children to show their desired talents instead of focusing on hard circular subjects. Genius hour sparks creativity and makes students enjoy school projects. Ken also discusses how important teachers roles are in school, and teachers aren't pushed to think outside of the box of originality of teaching methods. Genius hour benefits students in tremendous ways, and it is great Mrs. Sutton is letting us partake. Ken Robinson presented his TED Talk excellently by using ethos, pathos, and logos. He establishes ethos by describing his experiences to prove the audience his credibility. Ken talks relates his experiences as a parent with other parents in the crowd. establishes pathos by asking questions, and making them laugh; therefore, they develop a relationship. By providing relevant facts, he establishes logos. This is an excellent presentation. By watching his TED Talk,I will establish ethos, pathos, and logos during my presentation. I will describe my experiences, state facts, and show my personality.
Michael Michalko differentiates a genius by the way he or she thinks because being a intelligent is uncorrelated with creativity. Others like Havelock Ellis believe geniuses are sickly when they are young and have fathers and mothers 30 and 25 years old, respectively; however, others note geniuses of the past have been celibate, fatherless, and motherless. When faced with a problem, we typically recall information from their pasts to determine a path to the solution they know will work; however, geniuses look at all the different paths able to solve the problem. Geniuses use productive thinking allowing them to come up with unique answers of all sorts. The shared strategies of geniuses include the way they approach a problem, how they make it visual, and their encouragement to produce. Geniuses also form novel combinations and make peculiar connections with uncorrelated objects by thinking in opposites. By this, geniuses think metaphorically. Also, geniuses take every interesting spontaneous discovery seriously, instead of letting it slip by. I have looked at different perspectives and found a possible solution to making the school environment less stressful for students by bringing in a therapy dog. I made my goal visible through this Genius Hour Page and the communications I have made. Dogs in school settings aren´t extremely popular; however, I strive to make them a popular relationship. I believe this is a fantastic opportunity for Kingsford High School, so I am not going to let it slip by.

The article listed above explains how Genius Hour is an effective tool in the classroom setting and how it is growing in popularity throughout other schools. One teacher emphasized on the fact that failure is an option, as long as you learn from it. Allowing the students to know failure is an option, the students take more risks. The article then discusses how they sold the idea of Genius Hour to parents, then students. From my learning in this article, I have more confidence in my Genius Hour Project. I know that to matter what the outcome of my project is, I wont get a bad grade in the class. Genius Hour is based on students completing tasks and using their creativity to make an impact. As long as I do what I am told, and try my best to get a therapy dog in KHS, it wont effect my grade. Even if I don´t successfully get a therapy dog, I will still obtain a learning experience. In the month of October, I wish to do as much research as I can on benefits on therapy dogs in school settings. I will need to know the path other people took to get a dog into their school environment. Also, I will have to determine how much money a dog will cost (including veterinarian appointments and treatments), and how I am going to fundraiser. After I know as much as I can about the subject, I wish to write a convincing paper to give to Mr. Smithson by the end of November. I hope to get my idea approved by Mr. Smithson and start fundraising by the end of December. These monthly goals are the itinerary for completion of my Genius Hour Project by January 10, 2017.
